You will need to answer three questions. (100 pts.)

You must answer question one. For your second and third questions, you may choose any two questions from numbers 2 through 9.

1. Mr. Brügge says that the discovery of radioactivity is the most important scientific discovery of the last 100 years. In a solid one-page essay agree or disagree with him. Be sure to cite specific examples and details to support your position. (50 pts.)

2. Compare and contrast the book and movie. Give specific examples of how they are alike and how they differ.

3. Draw a color illustration of one scene from the book or movie. Your picture should have a caption that captures a significant theme.
(This may be done at home in advance of the test.)

4. Do you believe Marie was treated differently because she was a woman in a man’s field? Give at least three specific examples to support your claim.

5. In his address to the Nobel Committee in 1903, Pierre warned about the potential harm that radioactivity could bring to humanity. Write an essay in which you consider the positives and negatives of radioactivity.

6. Create a question of your own. It must be an essay-style question. You will be graded on your question and its answer.

7. Should Marie’s affair have been made public by the press? Should one’s private life have any bearing on one’s public life? You may want to compare this to a modern example.

8. It could be argued that Marie loved radium more than her own children. Was Marie able to balance her roles as a scientist and mother? Give at least three specific examples to support your opinion.

9. Turn in your four completed study guides. They SHALL be graded for correct answers.
