HISTORY OF DOUBLE EAGLE

Double Eagle History

Try, try again...

The name of our school, Double Eagle, was taken from the Double Eagle II balloon, piloted by Ben Abruzzo, Maxie Anderson, and Larry Newman. These Albuquerque residents attempted their goal of crossing the Atlantic Ocean by gas balloon at least a dozen times. After each failure, they assessed their errors and regrouped for another attempt. They never let a futile attempt defeat their spirit of determination. Every failure was a learning experience. The successful trans-atlantic flight was achieved on August 11, 1978.

This model of trying again, even after failure, is what we hope to instill in the students who attend Double Eagle. We hope each student will set their expectations high, knowing that it will take hard work and even some disappointment to attain their goals. By working together and never giving up, we will achieve success!
