Comanche Elementary
“Where Children Come First”

May 9, 2008

Dear Comanche Community,

Here we are once again ready for our annual Art Dessert Night TONIGHT 6:00 to 8:30! I am looking forward to seeing you. We will have music and art work by your wonderful cubs, the children’s raffle, a silent auction, desserts, face painting, a photo booth and arts & crafts activities. It is always a pleasure to open up Comanche in the evening for families and friends to come together to spotlight our wonderful Comanche Cubs!

I wish you a Happy Mother’s Day weekend!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Highland

Thank you, parents, for helping with the swimming unit and the Jog-A-Thon. We have one more event left and that is Field Day on May 20th.. Please check with your child’s teacher for the time. Without your support, we would not be able to offer these events!.
Sincerely,
Mr. Bevan

Highland’s Research
Standard Based Progress Report (SBPR) Effort Marks: An effort mark shows how actively and continuously your child has worked to the best of his/her ability in demonstrating a positive attitude as measured by participation, engagement, and completion of assignments. Each effort mark reported on the SBPR applies to the subject area that follows as well as the Student Responsibilities section.
There are four different effort marks:
“ E” stands for “Excellent” and means your child consistently works beyond the teacher’s expectations to demonstrate a positive learning attitude in the classroom.
“ S” stands for “Satisfactory” and means your child regularly works to demonstrate a positive learning attitude in the classroom.
“ I” stands for “Improvement Needed” and means your child may, at times, demonstrate a positive learning attitude in the classroom.
“ N” stands for “No Effort Made” and means your child has not shown any effort in demonstrating a positive learning attitude in the classroom.

PTA CORNER:
Before/After School Programs: There will be no classes May 12th – May 22nd unless specified by your instructor. Please fill out your SURVEY and get it back to the office as soon as possible.
Classes Next Year: Do you or someone you know have a specialty or hobby that you might want to share with our cubs before or after school? We are looking for instructors for the before/after school programs. Examples might be chess, art, music, sports, science, homework club, book club, etc.
Don’t forget to get an oil change: Flyers were sent home in regards to Jay Walton Automotive donating $10 per oil change back to Comanche. This is for the entire month of May so grab your flyer or just let them know when you go in that you are from Comanche. The Luce family has had several children go through Comanche and we appreciate them making this offer to support our school. Another flyer will be coming home soon!

Way to go Comanche Cubs! You finished the year out with a bang. This month alone you turned in 2785 box tops. The entire year you turned in just over 13850. Great job raising approximately $1385 for Comanche! This month’s winners were 1st place: Mrs. Chapek’s class, 2nd place: Mrs. Baca & Mrs. Hudson’s class, and 3rd place: Mr. Sauter’s class. Coming soon in your folders will be a little thank you for every student with a Ziploc bag attached to collect box tops over the summer. Keep on clipping!

One I – Mac computer will be donated to Comanche and is available for Comanche families on a first come, first serve basis. Please come by the office.
