Chelwood Parent Handbook for 2002-2003 The Parent Handbook is in the process of being
up dated. Thank you. The Parent Handbook is designed to keep parents
informed of the www.aps.edu/aps/chelwood/Handbook2.htm Student Behavior Handbooks 2002-2003 All parents should have a copy of the Student Behavior Handbook 2002-2003. Please read it carefully because there are changes that will be important to you and your children. For example, A.P.S. has a new attendance policy (pp. 8-9).In summary: - The APS district goal is 95% attendance for all students in each grading period. This means no more than 4.5 unexcused absences per student, per semester, is acceptable. - Whenever a student is going to be absent from school, the parent/guardian must notify the school that the student will be absent or risk having an unexcused absence for the student. - The parent/guardian must notify the school each day the student is absent or risk having an unexcused absence for the student. - Each school has a specific procedure to follow regarding absence notification. - Schools must make a good faith effort to contact the parent/guardian after 3 consecutive days of absence. - Absences may be excused for the following reasons, with appropriate documentation: 1) doctor appointment, 2) death in the family, 3) religious commitment, 4) illness, 5) family emergency, 6) diagnostic testing. - Because students are limited to 4.5 absences per semester, it is expected that parents will limit student vacations to periods of time when school is not in session.
