THE BATTLE OF THE BOOKS!
The New Mexico Battle of the Books is an exciting program designed for children who love to read! Participants read a predetermined list of 20 books and discuss the books they’ve read. Their efforts culminate in a “battle of the books,” which is a quiz show or college bowl type contest about the books read. This program can provide recognition for academic pursuits similar to the recognition often found in sports events. The program fosters team skills and provides the chance to make new friends.
Chamiza Elementary will participate in the Battle of the Books again this year. The program is open to any 4th or 5th grade student who loves to read! The books that are required reading are currently in our library, or are available at the public library, so cost should not be a factor in participation. However, commitment to reading the books is very important. Participants should anticipate having to reading one chapter book a week.
Battle of the Books will meet in the library every Tuesday after school from 3:10 pm to 4:30 pm, beginning Tuesday, September 9 th. We will notify you in advance when there are changes to this schedule. We anticipate meeting 22 times and should finish in April.
Parents of participants must be able to make the commitment to pick up their students promptly at 4:30,
