NEW START TIME FOR THE 2002 - 2003 SCHOOL YEAR

As many of you know we requested an earlier start time for the next
school year.  We would like to thank the many interested parents that
signed the petition for an earlier start time, listing several concerns
about our current start time.  Despite efforts by Ms. Kortsch, APS
Student Transportation Services has given us a new start time of 9:05 AM

with the first bell at 9:00 AM (5 minutes earlier than this year). They
explained that they cannot accommodate an earlier start time because of
bus route scheduling constraints.  When asked why we were not returning
to our original start time, before the Big I construction, they
explained that it was not possible due to the increased growth pattern
of Albuquerque and an increase in routes.

Several individuals are still working on the feasibilities of an earlier
start time for the next school year.  They are currently working with
Dr. Patrick Garcia (Director) and Larry Madrid (Specialist) with Student
Transportation Services and Joseph Vigil, Interim Co-Superintendent.  If
you would like to get involved, please call Vicki Kent (345-0031) for
further information.  Any future updates will be posted in the remaining
newsletters of this school year.
