BRAVO!!  BRAVO!!

Congratulations to all those who participated in the Follies!
I heard that it was a great success and that fun was had by all.  A very

special appreciation goes to Pam Berg!  She has chaired the Follies for
the past three years and has done an excellent job!!  Alvarado will
truly miss her next year!

RUBBER DUCK DEADLINE IS
 APRIL 30TH!

The top 3 selling schools (sales through April) will receive great
prizes to help that school. These prizes may include cash and needed
school supplies.
You will have a chance to win other great prizes: A 2002 Dodge Neon, 2
round trip airline tickets, or a trip to Disneyland.  Buy a duck ($5) or

a flock of 5 ($20), to race down the Rio Grande, August 24, 2002.
Alvarado receives $1 per duck.  Net proceeds from this charity event
(after the schools have earned their funds from the Bucks For Ducks
program) are split between 2 nonprofit agencies:
      Campus Crime Stoppers will use these funds to further develop the
already successful Campus Crime Stoppers program into the elementary
level schools. (The program will be developed with the input & support
of elementary principals, teachers, parents, students & school police.)
       The Albuquerque Rotary Charitable Foundation, does much to
support local programs in areas such as child welfare and literacy, and
was a major contributor to the recently inaugurated Children's Fantasy
Garden at the Bio Park.

Don’t wait.......adopt your rubber ducks today!  On sale in the office,

ATTENTION     ALVARADO FAMILIES

You are invited to attend the Alvarado Fiesta presented by the Alvarado
Bilingual Classes.  Come and enjoy a fabulous patriotic performance with
dancing, singing, crafts, desserts, and more!

Wednesday, May 1st at 6:30 pm in the gym.  A dessert and craft sale will
immediately follow in the courtyard.

ASA NEWS

President’s Report:  A new by-law to add a President Elect to the ASA
Board was voted on and passed.  The past president will no longer be
part of the Executive Committee.

Principal’s Report:  The school budget was submitted for next year.
Next year the counselor will be part-time and a full time Educational
Assistant will be hired.  A request for schedule change to an earlier
start time for the next school year is currently being reviewed by APS
Transportation.

Treasurers Report:  The ASA proposed budget for next year was voted onand passed.

Committee Reports:

Middle School Initiative (MSI):  We will know more about the status fornext year at our next ASA meeting.  We need a new coordinator for next
year.  If interested, call Alison O’Leary (342-0763).

School Management Council (SMC):  We need two parents for a two year
term on the SMC Board for next year. If you are interested or have a
nomination, please contact Pam Berg or Dusty Kleyboecker (see numbers below) before May 3rd.

Ice Cream Social:  May 15, 2002 at 6:00 pm.  Contact Susan Kelly
(344-4353) if you can help give out ice cream on that day.

Follies:  The Follies was a great success.  Preliminary profit of $2,291

was reported, with a possible increase due to collection of other funds.

Elections:  As soon as we have a slate for the ASA Board and SMC
representatives, it will be passed out for voting.  For nominations on
either the ASA Board and SMC Representatives, contact Pam Berg
(344-4395) or Dusty Kleyboecker (344-1056).  The deadline for
nominations is May 3, the voting deadline is May 10, and the election
results will be May 15 at the Ice Cream Social.

UNM MUSIC PREP SCHOOL

Summer music classes for Birth through Sixth Grade.  On Saturdays, an 8-week program of 45-minute classes (30 minutes for birth through 29
months) will be offered June 1 - July 27 between 9 AM and 2 PM.
Included are pre-school and primary general music, vocal music, world
music, beginning instrument ensemble for families, music theater,
American history through music; and pre piano and guitar skills and
intermediate group instruction in piano and guitar.  Cost for the
eight-week semester is $60.00 ($40.00 for birth through 29 months),
non-refundable.  Classes are held in the UNM Center for the Arts
(Popejoy Hall).

CALDECOTT READING CLUB

Congratulations to the following students for what they have read:
