CCSS Pilot @ APS
_________________________________________________________
The CCSS Pilot Project is to prepare the district for full implementation of the common core by 2014 and includes five critical components:
- CORE Planning Team
- Communication
- Formative Assessment Development
- Professional Learning System
- Curricular Frameworks
APS is committed to provide schools and educators with the resources they need to implement the standards effectively.
Key to the successful implementation is a two-grade level pilot in Math & Language Arts that began in August 2011.
Cohorts of 4th and 8th grade teachers and principals are piloting the standards in their classrooms and inform the design and use of new formative assessments aligned to the standards.
CCSS will establish what students need to learn, but they will not dictate how teachers should teach.
