Specific Academic Plan Goals and Targets

This academic plan puts change in motion for Albuquerque Public Schools by setting clear goals based on data analysis, primary market research and a set of studies from citizens across our community.

We have identified multiple indicators of success that address our academic challenges, and set specific goals for each measure. This structured plan raises the expectations for our faculty, students, their parents and the whole community. It puts forth the creation of Centers of Excellence at every school for every child within Albuquerque Public Schools.

Specific Targets Include:

  • By 2012, 71.5% graduation rate in 4 years for seniors in the district.
  • By 2012, 59% of students will attain proficiency for reading by Grade 11, based on State Standards Based Assessments.
  • By 2012, 47% of students will attain proficiency for math by Grade 11, based on State Standards Based Assessments.
  • An increased number of children moving out of special education programs and into mainstream classes.
  • A higher level of graduates entering and remaining in colleges and universities.
  • By 2012, a 60% acceptance rate of students in post-secondary institutions who are not required to take remedial course, entering college ready.
  • By the 2012-13 school year, all schools will be implementing the Common Core State Standards.
  • By the 2013-14 school year, district will have full implementation of Common Core State Standards in all schools.
  • By the 2014-15 school year, all students will be administered the new Common Core State Standards based assessment.

Some of the outcomes will include:

  • Higher percentage of students participating in AP testing.
  • Higher percentage of students participating in AP courses.
  • Increased early interventions which produce more positive educational outcomes for our students.
  • Reduced referrals to special education.
  • More teachers and principals will engage in meaningful professional development.
  • Higher levels of compliance with national educational standards.

This plan requires much from many of us, but it requires one thing of all of us: We must come together in support of our children.
