News from the Superintendent: December 14, 2010
December 14, 2010
Good afternoon.
The last week of the semester is here and students and staff alike are certainly looking forward to the holidays and some much-needed time off. I want to take a moment to wish all of you and your families a very safe and happy holiday season.
This season is about celebrating our families, friends, health and all the good things in our lives. We have a lot to be grateful for, including good schools and good students to work with.
The winter break is not for worrying about budgets or test scores; we have the rest of the year to worry about those things. They will still be waiting for us when we return in January and will be hot topics of discussion.
Instead, let’s consider numerous awards won by students, teachers and administrators for their academic and professional achievement and the thousands of students who graduated as we look back on 2010. Sports teams, musicians and academic clubs have won state and national competitions this year. Just within the past week, Griegos Elementary was nominated for a federal Blue Ribbon Schools award and a team from Highland High won the state “We the People” championship for the eighth time in the last nine years.
This has been an incredible year when you stop to think about it. Some great gains have been made and people have accomplished some amazing things. Please spend the next couple of weeks relaxing and reflecting on that.
Have a great week and a restful and joyous holiday break. See you in 2011.
Winston Brooks
Superintendent
