Census 2010: It's important for all of us
March 25, 2010
Dear APS Families and Staff,
You’ve probably already received a packet in your mailbox about the 2010 U.S. Census. If you’ve already filled it out and mailed it back, good for you. The 10 minutes you spent completing the confidential form provided information the government uses to decide how to allocate funding for schools and other critical public services. If you haven’t filled it out, then I encourage you to do so.
The Constitution requires census information to be collected every 10 years. It’s important that every person be counted. Census data are used to determine, among other things, Title I and special education allocations and college grant and loan programs.
The 2010 Census also provides an opportunity to teach our students about an important function of citizenship that only comes along once a decade. Resources are available at on this page and at www.census.gov/schools.
Please take the time to fill out and mail your census questionnaire. It’s important for all of us. Thank you.
Winston Brooks
Superintendent
