In Step with Winston

Superintendent Brooks at VanBuren

When I was hired as superintendent for Albuquerque Public Schools, people told me there was a lot of ground to cover. After all, APS has 139 schools, 90,000 students and 11,500 employees. During the school year, I make it a priority to visit those schools, those students, those employees. It’s the part of my job I enjoy the most.

I’m using this space on the APS website to share with you what I’ve heard and seen in the classrooms, on the playgrounds, in the halls, lunchrooms and offices of our schools. I’ll also use the columns you’ll find below to fill you in on some of my other activities, whether it’s a trip to the state Legislature to address educational funding or a breakfast with business owners and decision makers in the Albuquerque community.

I’m inviting you to come along with me, to get a glimpse of the educational world I see, to stay in step with the superintendent.
