Procedural Directive Revisions and Development - January 2005 Revision

Note: This procedural directive was reviewed and approved on June 25, 2010. We provide this revision for historic purposes only. Please refer to the current procedural directive.

Procedural directives provide guidelines and/or regulations for the implementation of Board of Education policy and federal or state statutes and regulations applicable to the Albuquerque Public Schools.

Maintenance and staff support for procedural directives is the responsibility of Central Office. Any employee of the district may propose new procedures or recommendations for revisions in accordance with this Procedural Directive.

Preliminary Drafting and Review

Contact the directive coordinator if a directive should need to be added or modified. A thorough review of current Board policies and administrative procedural directives should be conducted to ensure

  1. that no current policy or directive regarding the topic already exists, and
  2. that related policies and directives are identified to be used as cross references.

After the revised or new directive is drafted, the proposed change or addition is brought before the Superintendent’s Executive Team for review and approval.

Final Approval and Implementation

All directives must be approved by the Executive Team and will become effective when approved
by the Superintendent.

The Executive Team will determine the type and extent of any training or communication required to ensure proper compliance with the approved directive.

No one may by-pass the preparation and approval process outlined in this directive by issuing district wide directives, procedures, or requirements. Any procedure or form used throughout the District must be approved and established as a policy or directive. Such unauthorized procedures are not binding. Interdepartmental arrangements allow for creating internal procedures that do not need to be approved.

Board Policies and Administrative Procedural Directives are posted on the APS website.  This site will provide the most current edition of all policies and directives.
