Married, Pregnant or Parenting Students

Married Students

Issues arising in regard to married students shall be handled by the school principal and appropriate associate superintendent on an individual basis with the objective of providing full opportunity for continued education.

Pregnant/Parenting Students

Students who are pregnant/parenting shall be informed of all options and services provided by the Albuquerque Public Schools, and allowed to transfer voluntarily to one of those options if they so desire, as long as they meet the requirements and if space is available in the chosen program.  A pregnant/parenting student ought to investigate the possibility of attending New Futures School, or other alternative options, prior to withdrawing from his/her current school.  Questions in regard to pregnant/parenting students shall be addressed on an individual basis with the focus on providing equal and appropriate educational opportunity.  School counselors may assist in helping a student and his/her family in determining an appropriate placement.

Home and hospital instruction services shall be available for pregnant/parenting students who need medical assistance due to their pregnancy and are unable to attend school for an extended amount of time.  Please refer to the “Home or Hospital Instruction” procedural directive for more information regarding home and hospital services.
