Forum Held Thursday for Candidates Running for Board of Education

Candidates running for the APS Board of Education will participate in a series of forums beginning at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in the John Milne Room at City Centre. The forum also will be broadcast live on KANW 89.1-FM. The forum is sponsored by APS and the League of Women Voters.

Fourteen candidates are vying for three seats on the board. Candidates running in District 1, which covers the South Valley, are incumbent Dolores Griego, Phillip Chavez, Analee Maestas, Clara Peña and Jay Zook. They will introduce themselves and answer questions beginning at 5:45 p.m.

Candidates running in District 2, which includes the northwest area of the city, will present beginning at 6:35 p.m. They are John Herrera, Katherine Korte, Felix Nuñez, Peter Sanchez, and Greg Snyder. Robert Lucero, who currently holds the position, isn’t seeking re-election.

The candidates seeking the District 4 seat, which includes the center of the city and the downtown area, are incumbent Martin Esquivel, who currently serves as president of the board; Candido Archuleta Jr.; Cheryl Harris; and Charles MacQuigg. Their introductions will begin at 7:25 p.m.

Early voting in the election continues through Jan. 28, with polling sites open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Early voting sites are:

  • The APS Building, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE
  • The County Clerk’s Annex, 620 Lomas Blvd. NW
  • Coors Plaza, 3200 Coors Blvd. NW (Suite A)
  • The BT Portable on the campus of CNM, 1401 Basehart Road SE
  • Rio Rancho City Hall, 3200 Civic Center Circle NE in Rio Rancho
