Winning Poems

#1     My Hood

By Eric Flores

My Hood near Coors aint the place you want to meet

And keep an eye out because it’s right up your street

It’s the kind of place with a vibe be foul

Behind the Golden Corral because you know we wild

And the pizza man don’t deliver here

Out of fear that the thieves will come near

I hope that your shoes are made for running

Because if you come to act bad the goons will come gunning

And the cops are around all the time

They know that the area is infested with crime

So who needs a diploma when the streets are calling

And people make more money when they are balling

And just last week another teen died

Because he wore the wrong hat when he was in his ride

So here I am rapping trying to make things better

We have to work together it’s now or never.

#2     Dark

By Ricardo Rios

The dark is as horrible as death

Death is like the sight

of coming Darkness.

Dark is like Death

& Death is as a Dark feeling.

Dark is Death as Death is Dead

& Dead is fear.

End, Dead, and Finished

is the feeling of Dark.

Dark talks & moves with you

to cause fear & pain.

Dark eats you & makes you an un-safe feeling.

Dark is Dark no more no less.

#3     I Come From

By Anthony Rael

I come from my rich Hispanic blood running through my veins.

I come from all of the beautiful places in the world.

I come from my friends and my family.

I come from all the flowers in the world.

I come from my grandma’s tasteful cooking.

I come from the beautiful trees and their leaves.

I come from the water in the Rio Grande.

I come from all the magnificent animals like lions and elephants.

I come from the wind that blows through people’s hair.  I come from my favorite colors- red and yellow.

I come from the painting by Leonardo Da Vinci.

I come from God, and I thank him for creating me.

# 4     Always and Forever

By Miriam Veleta

See full size image

You carried me away

Since the first day we met

We were in love and

I knew we were set

Never did I think

We could ever be apart

Cause when we were in love

You were always in my heart

Memories we have now

Of the time we shared together

Love we still had you said

Always and Forever

Pictures of us together make me so sad

It reminds me of the good days

Of the love we once had

We will always have our love

And the time we have together

But just know one thing, I will love you Always and Forever.

Honorable Mention Poems

Me and You

By Reina Chacon

It’s hard to pretend there is no me and you just so people don’t see.

It’s so hard to deny us

Hopefully this won’t ruin our trust.

I can’t wait till everyone knows.

I can’t wait till our feelings show.

But if I have to wait forever for you I will wait forever for my love.

And I know you feel the same way too.

Clouds

By Christian Chico-Marin

Clouds are like cotton balls in the sky. They are as soft as your pillow. The air breeze feels cool and comfortable. The swoosh of the wind fills your ears. Clouds could cut curiously into your mind. They are guardians of the sky.

The Rain Storm

By Andrew Chavez

The rain storm is like bullets of water dropping from the sky.

The thunder is booming and banging all night long.

Crash, Bash the thunder and the bullets of the rain.

I Love Being at the Park

By Amber Gallegos

I love being at the park

like the way monkeys love being in the jungle. The laughter of other children my age, the way kids play cops and robbers in a cage. I also love swinging on the monkey bars the way kids run into each other like bumper cars.

I love being at the park.

Memory

By Jayme Vigil

Your face is like an old memory stuck

in my head….forever.

Will I ever forget? What if I stopped

you? I should’ve. If I was there,

I would’ve.

But no, it’s not my responsibility. To save you.

You stained my life with what you did.

If I can even call it a life now.

It still buzzes in my head like a bug. Wow.

Feelings Poem

By Andres Casas

Inside blood boils

Begging to unleash fury

Ready to strike at any moment

As the blood boils so does the world outside

Chains cannot hold down this fury

Survival doesn’t matter

All that matters is unleashing the fury

Unleash all at once

Lyrics by Eric

By Eric Flores

The third type of love is the kind you have for your homie

Always got your back, never leave you lonely

Pick up your slack, and they `re never phony

They’re your best friend

They’re your one and only

A friend keeps your head up when it’s down

They put a smile on your face when they come around

They always support you pound for pound

When they leave, your world turns upside down

Your friend’s got you, they always come through

When you’re in trouble, they’re the one you run to

They’re on your right whenever there’s a fight

And protect you when the dogs come to bite

You can be sure things will turn out all right

Always close by, never out of sight

You’ll always stay tight

Protected by their might

And you’ll never see the darkness, only the light

Haikus

By Cheyanne Palacios

The clouds are bright white,

The intense sun shines through them,

Making a nice day

The sky is bright blue,

As the wind blows through the air

It makes it breezy

Flowers are pretty,

They are many different colors,

As people pick them

The ocean is blue,

The waves hit the sandy shores

Seagulls fly around

The park is lovely

People enjoy playing there

Happens everyday

It was Cold and Dark

By Gustavo Marrufo

It was cold and dark.

The trees were losing their leaves.

As the leaves would fall

The birds would call.

As the trees stood tall

As the snow would melt

I could hear them all.

Each one felt

Like if they were

Getting killed

By dawn they would

Disappear.

You make my heart go woo.

You protect me because you’re tough.

You’re like armor.

You’re my lover,

But would you smother me?

Would you say you love me?

You tell me I love you,

But the fact is I’m really in

Love with you!

Even if that means saving you,

Sends me to heaven.

Would  you smother me?

My first time on a roller coaster, I was 9 years old and it was my Birthday Party. I had gone with my neighbor Jessica. When I looked up the roller coaster looked fierce. As I took my first feared steps into the line, I had known there was no getting out. Closer, closer my heart was racing like a race car. Finally our turn I felt like I was going to puke my guts out. We rolled up to the top and as soon as I down I felt a pulling rush of air against my face. It felt like a tropical storm wind. Up and down, up and down, and down. DONE I was done riding the roller coaster DONE DONE DONE.

I glided this way and that way

Oh what a day.

But then all of a sudden

I fell

My hands started to shake

And my feet started to move

I began running

I don’t know why

I had a feeling I would die.

Then I opened one eye

And found out it was all a dream.

One Day

By Monique Trujillo

One day it was a beautiful morning.

As I was taking a walk birds were chirping and saying hello!

The sky was as pretty and blue as the ocean.

The leaves were flying as the wind goes whoosh!

The Fire

By Tobias Archuleta Jr.

The fire had a popping noise.

The fire was burning red.

The fire was like lava flowing out of a volcano.

The fire has gone out with a fizzle at the end of it.

Love

By Emily Hernandez

I wanted you to love me,

But you didn’t feel the same way.

When you heard your phone ring you

ignored it because you knew it was me.

Whenever you called me I

would run to see who it was.

My heart would get excited,

when I saw that it wasn’t you

I would ignore the call,

all I wanted was you to love

me how I loved you.

Dogs and Cats

By Willie Ford

Dogs and Cats

Cats walk like Dracula

Quieter than that pillow

A hyper dog is a bad idea

Crash, crack, smack

This is a cat and a dog when they walk a bug

One leaved the other is gone.

Once I Heard the Pin Drop

By Destinee Barros

Once I heard the pin drop

I thought it went pop.

But it didn’t pop

I just heard it drop.

Once I heard it backwards

It went pop

Then it dropped.

But I found out that I was just day dreaming.

I Fly So High

By Adam Molina

I fly so high

to fly and die.

I like to fly all day long

to touch the sky.

I can fly as high

As a kite.

I can crash as hard

as a kite.

Angry

By Manuel Coronel

I am so angry I feel like burning all my books and just listen to them burn while water slowly flows in my house.

But the sound of the fire and water makes me calm,

so I look at my wall as it disappears and I can see the Rocky Mountains with a hot air balloon slowly passes by.

Fly

By EJ Vargas

I fly high in the sky. Oh my, am I going to die?

But I fly low to catch a crow.

That crow had a fro.

But when I flew down low to catch the crow with a fro

I went to low. I didn’t catch the crow with the fro, after all.

The Sky

The sky is so high that you can almost touch the clouds

but when the sun goes down everything dies

when it is dark everything  is still

nothing moves it is like a spell that is on the whole world

than when the spell wears out the sun comes out and everything pops to life!

A Boxer

A boxer is like a bully that fights with other people in the ring

that moves a lot when fighting

and when the time is right he will get a chance at a title

and when he wins he will have to defend it all the time!
