6th Grade: Thursday August 12, from 9:30-11:30

Student Dress Code Policy

JAMS Uniform Dress Policy: APS Board of Education approved

a policy which states that beginning with the 1998-99 school year,

JAMS students will be required to wear standard dress. 

All guidelines which have been adopted for the APS Public Schools are

still in effect and are included where appropriate in the itemized lists which follow. 

This uniform dress policy will apply to all students,

except where there are specific instructional, safety, religious, or medical reasons.

 General Requirements

No gang-related clothing

bullet

No chains or spiked jewelry

bullet

No sunglasses, hairnets, hats, caps or bandanas

bullet

No clothing or accessories which promote negative behavior (profanity, violence, sex, drugs, alcohol, bigotry, disrespect) or that is highly distractive, disruptive or immodest.

 PANTS:

bullet

Solid Khaki, Black or Navy Blue

bullet

Straight legged, regular cut, dress pants

bullet

No  dropped crotch or sagging

bullet

 No outside pockets (cargo pants or stripes)

bullet

Cotton blend, Docker style

bullet

Fitted at waist

bullet

No denim (jeans) or corduroy

bullet

No extra wide legs

bullet

No capris or pedal pushers

bullet

Neither baggy nor tight

bullet

No stretch pants

bullet

No overall or one piece jump suits

bullet

No flared or bell bottoms

SHORTS/SKIRTS

bullet

No shorts or skirts of any kind are allowed - only pants may be word

 

SHIRTS:

Pull over POLO STYLE ONLY  

bullet

Solid colors only:  white, light blue, navy blue, hunter green, burgundy, black

bullet

Collared with buttons buttoned up

bullet

Short or long sleeve polo only, no sleeveless

bullet

Does NOT need to be tucked

bullet

Must NOT be longer than the hip

bullet

No transparent/sheer material

bullet

No logos larger than 2" x 2"

bullet

No striped, designs, or trimmed collars

bullet

No tank tops or bare midriffs

bullet

No zippers

bullet

School spirit shirts as allowed by the school

bullet

Any color undershirts (short or long sleeved) may be worn under appropriate polo shirt

SWEATSHIRTS/SWEATERS/Hoodies:

bullet

Only uniform solid color sweatshirts without hoods may be worn over legal polo shirt

bullet

No logos larger than 2" x 2"

bullet

Hoodies with zipper may be worn

JACKETS:

No professional or college sport teams are allowed

bullet

Any New Mexico sport team will be allowed (Lobos, Aggies, etc.)

bullet

Youth sports teams are allowed

SHOES:

No flip-flops or open-toe shoes

 STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS/ GUARDIANS ARE:

 RESPONSIBLE TO BE AWARE OF THE DRESS POLICY

RESPONSIBLE TO CONFORM TO THE UNIFORM DRESS POLICY REQUIREMENTS

 THE ADMINISTRATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO INTERPRET AND MODIFY THE DRESS POLICY.  ALL ADMINISTRATIVE DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
